Watch: PM Modi gifts Gangajal from Maha Kumbh to Mauritius president

Prime Minister Narendra Modi met the President of Mauritius, Dharam Gokhool, on Tuesday and presented him with Gangajal from Maha Kumbh. Modi, who reached Mauritius early Tuesday for a two-day state visit, also gave Gokhool several other gifts.
Before meeting President Gokhool, Modi met Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam. Both leaders planted a sapling at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden.
According to a video posted on Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s YouTube channel, he gave several gifts to President Gokhool, including Gangajal from Maha Kumbh.

Maha Kumbh mela took place from January 13 to February 26 in Prayagraj, Uttar Pradesh. Devotees took a holy dip at Sangam, where the Ganga, Yamuna, and the mythical Saraswati rivers meet.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his counterpart Navinchandra Ramgoolam also laid a wreath at Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden. The prime minister laid a wreath at the concrete ‘Samadhi’ of Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam, the founding father of Mauritius.
Earlier, Modi was welcomed at the airport upon arrival. This is PM Modi’s first visit to Mauritius since 2015.
Mauritius Prime Minister Ramgoolam and other leaders gave a ceremonial welcome, ministry of external Affairs Spokesperson Randhir Jaiswal said.
“This shows the strong relationship of India and Mauritius,” Jaiswal posted on X.
After paying homage to Seewoosagur Ramgoolam, Modi met the President and will attend the State lunch, Jaiswal said.
