Govt seeks nod for extra Rs 51,000 crore spend

NEW DELHI: Government on Monday sought Parliamentary approval for additional spending, including a cash outgo of over Rs 51,000 crore, with large chunks going towards fertiliser subsidy and pension. Over Rs 14,000 crore is proposed to be spent towards higher fertiliser subsidy, according to the second supplementary demand for grants tabled in Parliament.
Permission to make a larger allocation has been sought in case of pensions, with close to Rs 13,500 crore going towards retired civilians and another Rs 8,500 crore meant to meet defence pension requirements.
The supplementary demand for grants also included proposals for technical supplementary grants or appropriations for Rs 6.3 lakh crore, which will be matched by additional receipts or recoveries or through corresponding savings by central ministries and departments.
