'Why celebrating Women's Day when nothing is being done for their safety': Sanjay Raut slams Maharashtra govt
Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut

NEW DELHI: Shiv Sena (UBT) took a swipe at the Shiv Sena-led Maharashtra government on Saturday and asked why people are celebrating Women’s Day when the administration is not taking action in cases against women, referring to BJP minister Jay Kumar Gore’s case.
On the occasion of International Women’s Day, Shiv Sena (UBT) leader Sanjay Raut said that such days are celebrated a lot in India but no one thinks about the atrocities that are being committed upon women in the country.
“Such international days are celebrated a lot in India and the world. However, no one thinks about the atrocities that are being committed upon women in the country, especially in Maharashtra where many such incidents have taken place in the past four months,” he said.
“Since the government has come, you know about the incident in Pune. Yesterday, a matter regarding one minister, Jay Kumar Gore, came to light. A woman is protesting in front of the Raj Bhavan. Why are you celebrating these days when the government is not taking action (over crimes against women),” he added.
BJP minister Jaykumar Gore was alleged that he harassed a woman and allegedly sent her inappropriate photos. Gore had been threatened that he would move a breach of privilege against them and also file defamation cases against them. Gore is minister for rural development and panchayati raj.
Recently, the Pune case has again shifted the media to the growing cases against women in Maharashtra.
A 26-year-old woman, who works in the health sector, was allegedly raped by a history-sheeter, Dattatray Gade (37), inside a stationary state transport bus at Swargate terminus in the early hours of Tuesday (February 25). Later, the police arrested the accused.
Police have recorded statements of the rape survivor’s mother, brother, a friend, the conductor of the Pune-Solapur bus (in which the alleged crime occurred), and the cab driver who dropped her at the Swargate MSRTC bus stand.
In February, another case was of a four-year-old girl who was brutally raped by her 21-year-old uncle in Maharashtra’s Buldhana. The child received several stitches “near her private parts” and may need prolonged treatment. The crime – which occurred on Feb 5- has sparked outrage in the district. There was also a case of a 13-year old girl who was sexually assaulted by Principal of a school in Igatpuri taluka.
