Trash on tracks: Viral video shows railways official dumping garbage from moving train, ministry takes action; watch

NEW DELHI: A video of a senior railways official is doing rounds on social media where he is seen picking up garbage from a dustbin and throwing it casually on the track from a moving train.
The 49-second viral video has sparked criticism and raised concerns. The Indian Railways responded promptly, saying that the official had been “removed” on February 27, the same day the incident occurred. “This staff was removed on 27/2, the same day on which he committed this act,” the ministry of railways said in a post on X.
‘The Skin Doctor’, an X user shared the video and wrote, “He knew he was being recorded, and people were calling him out, yet even that wasn’t enough to make this alleged railway staff stop. Where do this arrogance and confidence come from?”
The passenger recording the video could be heard expressing his frustration, saying, “Yeh uncle saara kachra baahar phenk rahe hain tracks pe. Yeh hain Indian Railways ki haalat. Senior employee garbage baahar phenk rahein hain (This man is throwing garbage from the train onto the tracks. This is the state of Indian Railways. He is a senior employee).”
Taking cognisance of the incident, RailwaySeva (an official X account for support to RailUsers) said, “There is a well settled mechanism for garbage disposal in our Indian Railways. OBHS staff which had violated the same, has been removed and heavy penalty has been imposed. Further, the staff is being counselled to ensure proper cleanliness of the trains and railway premises.”
A social media user reacted, “It’s routine practice. If we closely watch railway tracks we can observe it easily. Upto 15- 20 mtrs on both side of the tracks are littered with such plates, wrappers, plastic packets etc. Very bad situation.”
Another wrote, “No accountability and no fear of losing job.”
