Video: Women Democrats wear pink in protest against Trump’s policies at joint Congress address

During President Donald Trump’s address to a joint session of Congress, about three dozen members of the Democratic Women’s Caucus chose to wear bright pink in a silent protest against Trump’s policies on women’s health, Ukraine, and other issues.
Congresswomen and even some congressmen joined the demonstration. There were congresswomen in shell pink, baby pink, pink jackets and pink skirts. There were even some congressmen in pink ties.

Female Dem lawmakers don flamboyant pink attire to protest Trump during address

Pink has historically been associated with gender stereotypes, such as “pink collar jobs” which were traditionally low-paying roles for women.
However, it has also been used as a symbol of empowerment, as seen in the 2017 Women’s March when protestors wore pink hats. Democratic women also wore white to past State of the Union addresses as a nod to the suffragette movement, and black in 2018 to support #MeToo.
Other forms of protest were also present during the address. Some lawmakers wore yellow and blue ties in support of Ukraine, and Democrats brought guests affected by Trump’s policies. They also carried paddles with messages like “Musk steals” and “Save Medicaid.”
