Anurag Kashyap CONFIRMS his relocation from 'toxic Bollywood': 'Everyone is trying to make Rs 800 crore films'

In December last year, Anurag Kashyap revealed his plans to relocate to South India. Now, in a conversation with The Hindu, the filmmaker has confirmed that he has left Mumbai, calling Bollywood ‘toxic.’
A source told the portal that Anurag has likely moved to Bangalore. The filmmaker, who has previously voiced his frustration with the Hindi film industry, reaffirmed his views, stating that he wants to distance himself from the film fraternity. He believes the industry is overly focused on high box office numbers, affecting its creative environment.

Earlier, Kashyap shared with The Hollywood Reporter India that he was deeply frustrated with the Hindi film industry and planned to relocate to South India for a more creatively stimulating space. He expressed admiration for South filmmakers, lamenting how profit-driven decisions in Bollywood have stripped away the joy of filmmaking.

The filmmaker is currently promoting the Hindi release of Footage, a Malayalam film presented by him. Directed by Saiju Sreedharan, the film features Manju Warrier, Vishak Nair, and Gayathri Ashok in key roles. Originally released in August last year, its Hindi version is set to premiere on March 7, 2025.
Meanwhile, Anurag will next be seen as a fearless cop in Dacoit, which is being shot in both Hindi and Telugu. Starring Adivi Sesh and Mrunal Thakur in lead roles, the film’s release date is yet to be announced.
