'Working very hard': Trump hails ‘DOGE master’ Elon in fiery speech; 'Musk Steals', Democrats protest
Donald Trump and Elon Musk

US President Donald Trump turned his first joint address to Congress into a full-throated endorsement of Elon Musk, hailing the billionaire as the architect of his radical government efficiency drive—and sparking outrage among Democrats.
“Created the DOGE, perhaps you heard of it… which is headed by Elon Musk, who is in the gallery tonight,” Trump declared, pointing toward the Tesla and SpaceX chief as Republicans erupted in applause. “Thank you, Elon. You are working very hard.”
Musk, seated in the gallery, nodded as GOP lawmakers gave him a standing ovation, solidifying his role as Trump’s de facto government slasher-in-chief.
“He didn’t need this,” Trump added, suggesting Musk was taking on Washington’s waste out of sheer patriotism rather than personal gain. “Even this side (Democrats) appreciates this… they just don’t want to admit it.”
Musk’s DOGE revolution: ‘Ending the flagrant waste of taxpayer dollars’
Trump doubled down on his government overhaul, touting Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) as the driving force behind his crackdown on federal spending.
“To further combat inflation, we will not only be reducing the cost of energy, but we’ll be ending the flagrant waste of taxpayer dollars,” Trump said, setting the stage for sweeping cuts that have already sent shockwaves through Washington.
Under Musk’s leadership, DOGE has reportedly slashed billions in federal contracts, uncovered wasteful spending, and fired thousands of government employees. Entire agencies have been shuttered overnight, as Musk’s efficiency-driven approach reshapes Washington.
Democrats revolt: ‘Musk Steals!’
But not everyone was cheering. As Trump sang Musk’s praises, Democrats held up black protest signs reading “Protect Veterans,” “Save Medicaid,” and “Musk Steals.” Some lifted them higher as the President spoke, turning the moment into a battle of ideologies.
Trump, unfazed, continued his full-throttle endorsement of Musk’s role in his administration.
“The days of rule by unelected bureaucrats are over,” he declared, as Musk watched silently from the gallery.
