Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava crushes Anthony Mackie’s Captain America at the Indian box office
In a major box office success, Vicky Kaushal’s historical epic Chhaava outshone Marvel’s Captain America: Brave New World in India, earning Rs 116.5 crore in three days. The film, depicting the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, established Kaushal’s status as a leading Bollywood actor, while the Marvel movie struggled with Rs 12.5 crore.

In a box office battle that showcased the growing dominance of Bollywood, Vicky Kaushal’s Chhaava has completely outperformed Marvel’s Captain America: Brave New World in India. The historical epic, based on the life of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj, stormed into cinemas with a staggering Rs 116.5 crore in just three days. Meanwhile, Brave New World, Anthony Mackie’s first outing as Captain America, could only muster Rs 12.5 crore in India, with a mere Rs 4.36 crore coming from its Hindi version.

While Captain America had a respectable global opening of $192.4 million, it still lagged behind previous Marvel blockbusters like Chris Hemsworth and Natalie Portman’sThor: Love and Thunder ($303.2 million), Chadwick Boseman’s Black Panther: Wakanda Forever ($331.3 million), and Benedict Cumberbatch and Elizabeth Olsen’s Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness ($449.4 million). However, it managed to outpace Eternals, which debuted at $162 million.
But in India, the verdict was clear—audiences overwhelmingly chose Chhaava over Hollywood’s latest superhero spectacle. Packed theatres, thunderous applause, and a deep emotional connection with the historical narrative helped Chhaava become the biggest Bollywood hit of 2025, even surpassing Sky Force (₹112 crore).
With Chhaava poised to overtake Raazi soon and continue its victorious run, Vicky Kaushal has cemented his place as a box office powerhouse. The film also starred Rashmika Mandanna as Yesubai and Akshaye Khanna as Mughal Emperor Aurangzeb. The film marks Vicky’s second film with director Laxman Utekar after Zara Hatke Zara Bachke. Meanwhile, Captain America which also starred Harrison Ford, Shira Haas, Tim Blake Nelson and Sebastian Stan will have to settle for a modest run, unable to match the might of India’s historical warriors.
