
NEW DELHI: India secured 12 medals on the concluding day of the Special Olympics World Winter Games in Turin, Italy, taking their total count to 33, comprising 8 gold, 18 silver and 7 bronze medals.
The Indian contingent garnered four additional medals in Snowshoeing, supplementing their previous six medals in this discipline. In the 25m Snowshoeing competition, Vasu Tiwari, Shalini Chauhan and Tanya each obtained silver medals, whilst Jahangir secured a bronze medal.

Indian athletes delivered outstanding results in Alpine Skiing.
In the Intermediate Slalom, Radha Devi and Nirmala Devi claimed silver medals in F01 and F04 categories respectively, with Abhishek Kumar securing silver in the Novice Slalom M02 category. Akriti secured a bronze medal in the 100m Classical Technique (F02 category) of Cross Country Skiing, displaying exceptional stamina.
The Indian Women’s Traditional Team earned a bronze medal in Floorball, exhibiting excellent coordination.
The final medal distribution showed India securing 10 medals each in Snowshoeing and Alpine Skiing, six in Snowboarding, four in Short Track Speed Skating, two in Cross Country Skiing and one in Floorball.
“Each medal won is a testament to their hard work and the unwavering support from coaches, families, and the entire Special Olympics Bharat family,” Special Olympics Bharat president Mallika Nadda said in a release.
“We are incredibly proud of their achievements and will continue to support their journey towards greater heights.”
