The lace-up corset shoes that will be everywhere in 2025
In the spectrum of shoes trending for spring-summer 2025, we can expect to see plenty of ballerinas, mary janes, and transparent styles. While these classics have been in the spotlight for several seasons, every now and then, a fresh trend emerges that’s worth keeping an eye on.
We’ve been closely watching the fashion shows this season, and a few presentations during fashion weeks have garnered extra attention. When Chloé, Simone Rocha, and Dries Van Noten all embrace a similar accessory, it’s impossible not to take note. This time, the shared focus is on a unique take: the corset-inspired lace-up shoe. It’s a visually striking design, featuring laces threaded through eyelets along the entire instep and tied at the ankle for a structured, elegant finish.
Simone Rocha’s version comes in glittering flat ballerinas, in shades like black and red, evoking a touch of the Wizard of Oz. Meanwhile, Dries Van Noten’s first collection without its founder features two distinct mules with angular wedge heels and eye-catching finishes, such as snake print. With these new iterations, the lace-up shoe is set to become one of the defining accessories of the upcoming season.
Chloé has been the most dedicated to championing corset shoes. Its creative director, Chemena Kamali, showcased a version just yesterday in the brand’s Spring/Summer 2025 collection, featuring a design with a pacifier heel and a plunging neckline in shades such as white, nude, and black, paired with tailored polo trousers or delicate bloomers.
Considering the pointed-toe design of Dries Van Noten’s shoes, this style could be viewed as the summer equivalent of the lace-up ankle boots that were popular a few years ago. Like the current trend, those boots featured laces extending along the entire foot, creating a striking effect reminiscent of classic ice skates. In this latest version, particularly with the collection’s references to lingerie, Chloé’s lace-up shoes evoke a corset-like structure—making them a perfect metaphor for this new footwear direction.
