10 celebrity-owned restaurants in Mumbai you need to know about

Arzoo Dina, Sadaf Shaikh

Launched in 2022, Karan Johar’s Neuma, which rose where Mumbai’s first standalone fine-dining restaurant, Indigo, once stood, marked the prominent Indian director’s foray into the hospitality industry. The restaurant, housed in a restored colonial-era bungalow, has been designed by award-winning architect and interior designer Ashiesh Shah, who conceptualised the minimal-in-appearance/maximal-in-spirit interiors to offer diners a design-first experience that few nosheries in India have attempted so far. Each room of the bungalow—like the outdoor Garden Café, the Moulin Rouge-inspired Rose Bar, the Danish-chic Blanc room or the Verde private dining area—gives the impression that you’re in a different space altogether. Don’t miss the slow-cooked Belgian pork belly, the buttermilk fried chicken, the Neuma homestyle burrata, the cream cheese pull-apart bun, the old-school minced lamb gnocchi and the TDF New Zealand lamb chops.

Address: Garden Chalet, 4/6, Mandlik Rd, near Regal Cinema, Apollo Bandar, Colaba, Mumbai, Maharashtra 400001

Virat Kohli’s one8 Commune has been making inroads in the culinary landscape with a string of outposts that span the breadth of the country, from Kolkata and Delhi to Bangalore and Pune. In 2022, it put down roots in the Mumbai bungalow formerly owned by cinematic icon Kishore Kumar. There are the expected servings of health-conscious dishes that you’d expect from a cricketer who prides himself on a regimented lifestyle—a section of the menu offers up ‘Virat’s favourites’ where you can chance upon everything from superfood salad to pearl barley risotto. But as day turns to dusk, the menu takes on a more indulgent, celebratory undertone, with a multi-cuisine lineup that can whisk you from homely Indian favourites like Taro leaf wadi to the finest delicacies of the Italian culinary scene like Seafood Al Ajillo.
